Spectator, 2016

Doltra, Ali and Foumar are back in town for a new adventure that will leave us reaping the consequences of a battle between the supreme elements. Evolving in an inhospitable world, Doltra is dealing with the fallback from her own reputation. Seeking to control her powers, she rediscovers the power of the lanterns and goes on to unearth a number of unusual passages in the Domaine-Howard park. Who is Bobby? Does the octopus still lie beneath the Mena'sen in the Saint-François River? Who is this woman lying in the park? Following the pulsing beats of  the music, the characters and the ever-present magic of the park, Il était une fois Doltra plunges us into a world filled with strange creatures and confronts us with the desire for vengeance, retaliation and the quest of absolute power.

« Les costumes étaient magnifiques. La pieuvre, les ombres chinoises, l’action dans la forêt. Tout a été apprécié.

C’est une belle organisation et cela a mis de la magie dans mes yeux et dans mon cœur. »

History

Il faut aller par là!  was a story created in 2016 by Marie Lupien-Durocher of the Maison des Arts de la Parole, adapted by Kristelle Holliday and directed by Angèle Séguin of the Théâtre des Petites Lanternes and Simon Durocher-Gosselin of LaboKracBoom. It was presented as part of the Rivers of Light Festival in the Domaine-Howard Park in October 2016.

We wished to create a contemporary tale for Sherbrooke while exploring the notion of landscape theatre; a creation unremittingly embedded within an external landscape. To do this, Marie Lupien-Durocher organized workshops to create the story and imagery, making it possible to draw on the imagination and reality of Sherbrooke's residents. We wanted to know who their heroes are, their adversaries, their dark sides. We wanted to know who the rebellious person is and who represents the devil. This helped us compose our characters and create a uniquely authentic story, made-in-Sherbrooke, called Il faut aller par là! Exploring the world of fairy-tales, circus arts, music and visual arts, Il faut aller par là! is a promenade show entirely imagined within the Domaine-Howard Park's landscape.

Il faut aller par là! tells the story of Sherbrooke's Foumar, Doltra and Ali. It is the story of a person who lives at the margin of society and it explores the helplessness he feels when confronted with someone in search of power who will not stop at anything to achieve their means. During the performances in 2016, the adventure plunged us to the hidden depths of the Lake of Forgotten Memories and invited us to brave the Forest of Hostility under the alluring glow of hundreds of lanterns.
