LANTERN

WORKSHOPS

     What are the lantern workshops?

During our lantern workshops, and surrounded by a warm and creative atmosphere, our artists will guide you in the making of superb willow or glass lanterns. You will be able to bring these lanternes with you to the Rivers of Light lantern parade on September 30th.

How to participate in a lantern workshop?

There will be a variety of lantern workshops in Sherbrooke over the next few months. Feel free to either take part in a workshop open to the public (at a festival or an event) or to participate in a private workshop (set up by an organization). We also offer lantern workshops for businesses as a team building activity.

Our Different Workshops

FESTIVALS AND EVENTS

« C'était magique même si la pluie s'en est mêlée...Nathaniel (8 ans) a manifesté le désir de fabriquer une grosse lanterne au Festival des traditions du monde l'an prochain...comme sa cousine Lili (11 ans)  l'avait fait cette année avec moi...

La relève est assurée ! »  participante en 2015

COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS AND SCHOOLS

« On dirait que tout le monde qui crée une lanterne retrouve son coeur d'enfant pour l'espace d'un atelier. »,

participant en 2016

Team-building

« Nous gardons un très bon souvenir de l’atelier réalisé au travail, à la CDEC. », Karole Forand, Executive Director, CDEC

Workshops in Festivals and Events

Where to find us this summer

Lantern workshops will be offered at the following events:

What happens at a lantern workshops during a festival?

At festivals, it is up to you to determine how much time you would like to spend on making your lantern. You are free to choose between making a willow or a glass jar lantern. Willow lanterns take a little longer to make. You may leave your lantern with us once you have finished and identified your work. You may come and pick it up, with its integrated LED light, before the departure of the Lantern Parade September 30th,

at the Centre des arts de la scène Jean-Besré in Sherbrooke town centre.

Do I have to pay to attend a workshop at festivals and events?

For lantern workshops at festivals and events, we operate on a pay-what-you-can scheme which allows us to cover the cost of materials for the lanterns. However, if you wish to bring the lantern with you, a mandatory cost of $ 7 for the willow lantern and $ 5 for the glass lantern will be requested.

Parade?

We are currently planning a theme for the 2018 edition of Rivers of Light. However, there is no specific theme for 2017. That being said, we invite you to be inspired by the things around you: in your kitchen, in your backyard, on your street, in your neighborhood, in your city, in your region or in the universe!

Want to Create your own Lantern?

If you are unable to participate in any of our lantern workshops, but you would like to bring a lantern to the parade:

You have two choices :

1. You can buy a lantern at the Lantern Parade.

2. You can make a lantern at home. Follow these instructions to make a pyramid, a sphere or a willow star or click here for glass lanterns.
